It appears that interstitial cystitis is going to be a part of my life so I'd like to get opinions on the best pain reliever. Azo is O.U.T. Didn't do squat for me. I've used Uristat in the past but just heard about Cystex.
Has anyone tried that product? Did it offer decent pain relief? Is Uristat a better choice for any reason?
FWIW, I don't wear contacts so discoloration isn't an issue. IC is like a UTI symptom-wise but there is no infection. I tend to have symptoms around my period although not always bad enough to warrant needing pain meds.
Pray tell me have you tried taking two capsules of evening primrose oil a day? I take this prescribed by my Consultant:
http://www.biooilresearch.co.uk/page3.html
For my Arthritis, Psoriasis and I found it exceptional for my PMS and regulating my periods. Therefore I strongly suggest you try it but you have to be it everyday for at least six months before you know if it is working. Best of Luck

Im 20 y old, male. About 10 days ago I had to go to the doctor for symptoms of UTI (frequent urination, burning). He gave me antibiotics and had my urine cultured and my blood analysed. We did the culture twice and found nothing in my urine nor in my blood. So the doctor has no idea what it could be. Help
Nicedoc is perhaps a tad too nice, but correct. My guess is that they got the urine specimen before you were tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia. That's very common but a mistake, as the urine stream washes out enough of the bugs to decrease the sensitvity of the test. Also, you (thank goodness!) didn't mention it, but I'd hope you got a finger up your butt to check for prostatitis.
The most important thing to remember is that women have a natural tendency to equate your problem with theirs. This includes nurses who want to get a urine specimen prematurely, a nearly universal affliction of the nursing profession. Men simply don't get bladder infections, so you'll need to ignore the opinions of women who aren't doctors. It's a peculiar situation, but one I've run into routinely over the years.

25 year old male, 185lbs, 5'11" tall relatively good health never a problem before. Diagnosed with high blood pressure once before (approximately 140/75) was latter determined to be lab coat syndrome.
Half to pee about once every half hour, very little pee comes out, mild irritation of the penis, sort of a very mild burning sensation about every other time subject pees.
Feels like I have to go again within like ten minutes of peeing, even though there doesn't seem to be much in the bladder.
Also weird unusual smell accompanies pee, about every third time.
Thinking possibly a UTI, wondering if there is a home test or if it could be anything else, never had this happen before, so not much to compare to.
Yeah, sounds like a UTI.
No home test.
If you don't feel like going to a doc, cranberry juice should clear it right up.
Just have a glass or cranberry juice every half hour or so, will be gone in under an hour

I have a 4 month old kitten that wont stop peeing on the bed. He goes #2 in the litterbox (which is cleaned daily) but insists on peeing on the bed. This happens about once or twice a week (everytime I wash the sheets). He doesnt have an uniary tract infection or any other infections (he just came from the vet). I called the vet and she said it could be the antihystimine that he was on for his cold. Hes been off this for 2 weeks now. Any ideas? Please dont tell me to take him to the vet because like I said…he just came from there after having a complete wellness panel done (he was an adoption).
I know this might sound totally strange but, I think it is because the cat would like two litter boxes.
It is the most unusal thing, but a friend of my mom was telling my mom and I a few months ago about her kitten. The kitten would also go number 2 in the box, and then go pee somewhere else. She told us she was getting crazy trying to find out why when then she came up with a idea. She gave the cat another litter box, so the cat had two. The cat then did number 2 in one box, and pee in the other, no more on the furniture. This could be the same with your cat, some cats are just fussy that way I guess, just like people.
Best of luck.

Do they have the same symptoms and are they treated with the same antibiotics?
Cystitis is inflammation of the bladder, this may or may not be secondary to infection.
A UTI is an infection anywhere in your urinary tract. This could be your Urethra, Bladder, Ureters or Kidneys.
In answer to your question cystitis caused by an infection may be treated with antibiotics. If this does not relieve your symptoms and you have recurring bouts you may be sent to see a Urologist, who may carry out investigations to determine the cause of your symptoms.

Last Sunday night, I was hit with a sudden urge to pee. I went and peed normally, but the feeling was still there. As Monday progressed, it got worse and worse. I felt like I had to pee constantly! I took some AZO then and went to the clinic on Wednesday. My sample didn't show a UTI, so it's not that. My Dr. suggested cystitis, but I have no pain, just urgency. I don't think it's diabetes because I'm not constanly thirsty or tired and no weight loss. I was given antibiotics "just in case" and an analgesic, but it's not helping at all. This feeling of having to pee is driving me crazy! I've been drinking water and grape juice and some cranberry, but no relief. The only other symptom I have is a bit of an ache on my right side. Can somebody PLEASE help me?!?!?
Keep talking to your doctor and you will eventually get to the root of the problem. Meanwhile, even if it sounds a bit crazy, I keep finding that I can at least partially solve my health problems with exercise. If you can handle it, try taking long walks and see if it helps.

My guy friend complained four days ago that the head of his penis was sensitive and sore. We had anal sex the night before so neither of us was too surprised or worried. The next day though he complained of burning during urination. One day after that, he said there was a light discharge just once. Now, these symptoms are both of a UTI and STD's.. My question is this: UTIs usually cause discolored, frequent urinations, and possible chills/fever, back or tummy pain. None of those symptoms are present. Has any males with a UTI just had those light symptoms? He will of course see a doctor, we're just curious.
1. DO NOT sleep with him until this is resolved.
2. UTI would have pain, but also the constant "need to go" feeling, so ask about that.
3. If it is UTI…drink cranberry juice. Nothing else works better. Should try it anyway since it's cheap, easy, and would probably start bringing relief in 6-8 hours.

I adopted a dog from the shelter, 8 year old poodle. after being groomed found out it was a cockapoo (no problem, great dog) I took her to the free within 10 day vet visit, only to find out- things were bad, needed a blood test, they thought she was diabetic, now it actually turn out she has chronic kidney failure disease, anemic, and has a uniary tract infection. got her medicine, and not going foward with a sonagram, to find out if curiable- ? It obviously breaks my heart with all that is going on with her- but of course I will do my best!
Most shelters are state/county funded with tax money or run off donations. They dont have the money to give every animal a medical work up. If the dog wasnt showing any signs of being sick, they wouldnt have tested it for all those things.
The chronic kidney failure is going to be immensly painful and miserable for the dog. The other problems can be solved with antibiotics and proper diet (which it probably didnt have before being brought to the shelter).
However, the kidney issue is just too much for the dog. I suggest you put the dog to sleep. That is going to get increadble expensive, and the dog is going to be miserable.

I have had a problem for 4 months. My lower back hurts, my left side hurts, and I pee alot. I went to the ER when it first happened and they swore up and doen it was an STD. Then my results came back negative. Then I was diagnosed with PID, which I ended up not having. I went to my gyn who thought it was endometriosis. It wasn't that either. So I went to see another doctor who told me I had a pulled muscle. Then I went to my PCP who gave me anti biotics for PID and a UTI. I had neither. Finally, I went to see a urologist and she said I have Interstitail Cystitis. Does anyone have any info on this? Does anyone have this? If so, can you tell me what is working to help the symptoms for you.
Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder wall. Interstitial cystitis is not due to an infection. If you are female and sexually active you have a greater chance of getting this. (50x more than men) It has to do with the close proximity to the anus is part of it. Plus the female urethra is so short. If you have had babies you may have had damage to your urethra, any catheterizations, surgeries or diabetes mellitus can cause in increase in chances. Frequent intercourse and poorly fitting diaphragms as well as use of spermicide can aggravate this. It is uncommon in children and teenagers. Pregnancy increases the risk. It is common in middle aged women, ie menopause.
Treatment would include avoiding alcohol, and caffeine, carbonated beverages. Drink cranberry juice, lots of water.
It is best to empty the bladder when you get the urge.
there is no single best treatment for interstitial cystitis, anti-inflammatories can give some relief, antispasmodics, antihistamines have varying relief as well.
It is a pain to have. Good luck
