What is this? the doctor has no idea?
Friday, October 31st, 2008
Im 20 y old, male. About 10 days ago I had to go to the doctor for symptoms of UTI (frequent urination, burning). He gave me antibiotics and had my urine cultured and my blood analysed. We did the culture twice and found nothing in my urine nor in my blood. So the doctor has no idea what it could be. Help
Nicedoc is perhaps a tad too nice, but correct. My guess is that they got the urine specimen before you were tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia. That's very common but a mistake, as the urine stream washes out enough of the bugs to decrease the sensitvity of the test. Also, you (thank goodness!) didn't mention it, but I'd hope you got a finger up your butt to check for prostatitis.
The most important thing to remember is that women have a natural tendency to equate your problem with theirs. This includes nurses who want to get a urine specimen prematurely, a nearly universal affliction of the nursing profession. Men simply don't get bladder infections, so you'll need to ignore the opinions of women who aren't doctors. It's a peculiar situation, but one I've run into routinely over the years.
