I have aleady taken him to the vet 3 times, but he seems to stay sick. He is a 7 month old DSH. He has always been underweight and underdeveloped compared to his littermate.
His symptoms are:
Yellowish-Dark brown pus in the ear canal
Swelling/redness in the ear flap
Swollen gums
Loose stools
Generally smells unhealthy
Straining when urinating
Asthma
I adopted him at 4 months of age, he had been outdoors. He was noticibly underweight and had ear mites but seemed to be otherwise ok. Within 1 week he presented the other symptoms. The vet just says its the worms and bladder cystitis. 2 months ago he puked up a foot long round worm and the vet gave him a full spectrum dewormer than again a month later. His fur got a bit healthier but he didn’t gain weight at all, two days ago we went back and got him on amoxicillin, but I’m really worried about the fact that there is so much wrong and he has never been healthy. Tested negative for feline lukemia. Does anyone have any other thoughts? I’ve taken him to two vets and neither thinks anything is seriously wrong, but I have to give him water with a syringe now to keep him hydrated.
He is on amoxicillin, 20 mg a day. He is also on Otoclense ear drops. The pre-op blood panel came up negative for any problems when he was neutered 3 months ago. I am continuing to work with my vet, I’m just looking for any ideas to get a new perspective.
Am I to understand that he presented with discharge from the ear canal and all the other symptoms and you were told not to worry? There are a myriad of possibilities, including a false negative FeLuke test. Bottom line, he has an infection which may be inner ear. The swollen gums could be caused by it as it spreads. And that is not something you want getting into the blood stream. He came from the outdoors, possibly where he was under-nourished and certainly exposed to God knows what. Mom may have been under-nourished when she was carrying. Or the health problems could just boil down to bad genetics. My recommendation is a new vet ASAP! Good luck.
