Interstitial cystitis or bladder spasms?
Sunday, February 28th, 2010
I’m going to a urologist next week for treatment of interstitial cystitis and bladder spasms. I was just wondering what tests do they do? How long does it take to feel better?
Thanks
They will put a catheter up your urethra (I can see you cringing from here), inject your bladder with a potassium solution, then drain your bladder, then inject your bladder again with a mild saline solution. If you feel more pain with the potassium solution, then you likely have interstitial cystitis. I took meds for five years, and I no longer take the meds and have very few symptoms. I wish you the best—I know exactly what you’re going through, and it’s not fun. What helped me most was a low-dose, long-term antibiotic (Macrobid). Antibiotics are not supposed to help people with I.C., but it helped me, so my doctor prescribed it. He changed my life for the better. I am eternally grateful to him. GOOD LUCK!!
