I have been tired — I mean really tired for a year now. I’m a 29 yr old female. Last April I had a miscarriage. I also had Mono, CMV, and H1N1 early last year. Ok? So I was a mess, basically. Since then I have been so tired I could just cry. My doctor has done and redone my bloodwork: CBC, thyroid, iron, metabolic panel, vitamin levels. One time my results showed hypothyroidism but when the test was repeated it did not show up. I am not depressed. I was depressed a long time ago, but now I am on Zoloft and it is helping a lot. I use NuvaRing for birth control. I was on both of these medications and doing well before the tiredness started. I have chronic asthma and interstitial cystitis, both of which are fairly well controlled. Over Christmas I started vomiting blood and having bloody diarrhea (sorry TMI) and spent 4 days in the hospital. They aren’t really sure what’s up. They got me to stop bleeding and rehydrated and I went home. I’ve been having light bleeding like my period since then, even though I am using birth control. I have started taking kelp (for the iodine), vitamin D, niacin, and a B-complex vitamin daily. I can not take a multivitamin anymore because it really hurts my stomach even if I take it with a meal. I can easily sleep 11 hours a night plus a nap if I can get away with it. I do moderate exercise daily. I eat very healthily and drink plenty of water. Any help, insight, advice, tips, suggestions, or potential remedies are greatly appreciated!!!

Did this start after the miscarriage? If so, you may want to look into celiac disease or a wheat/gluten intolerance. Sometimes it takes something dramatic (like a miscarriage) for the disease to kick in. It can affect everything that you have mentioned and the tiredness and a HUGE one. I also had problems with the thyroid showing problems and then it was fine, I ended having a hysterectomy because they didn’t find the celiac fast enough. If you are going back to your doctor soon, you can ask him to send you to get the blood tests for it or go to an allergist and get tested for food allergies…but I will tell you that the tests for celiac disease give many false negatives (even the biopsies)…so the best and quickest way to figure it out is to take ALL the gluten our of your system and see how you feel and do. It takes months to get totally better, but you will feel a difference very quickly, sometimes within 24 hours. I like to tell my clients to give it a full 3 weeks to see how you do.
Good luck!!

Is there any way of getting rid of cystitis without those nasty sachets you have to mix with water? AT ALL?iv got the sachets, but it repulses me, i gag, im sick…and i cant drink it. Iv tried mixing it with anything you can think of..is there anything i can do to get rid of this problem without using the sachets…like, waiting it out (which i know is going to be worse) or any home remedies? thanks.

Cystitis is one of the few common infections that should generally always be routinely treated with antibiotics. The sachets that are basically just urinary alkaliser solutions have a significant fail rate. Untreated cystitis can result in ascending infection which reaches and infects the kidneys. Here permanent scarring may result and occasionally systemic spread of infection resulting in septicaemia.

I suffer from cystitis, a lot. It all seems to be triggered by sex, which is horrible. I last had a bladder infection only a few weeks ago and now i have it again! This bout of cystitis i know is from sex because i had sex with my boyfriend for the first time in a few weeks just two nights ago, and now the infection has come back.

I started suffering from cystitis when i began going out with my bf, and its horrible because I cant sleep with him without suffering the consequences (a bladder infection). i’ve been to the doctors hundreds of times in the past few months, and have been on 3 courses of antibiotics for this problem.

My question that I’m asking is, as it’s so close to christmas, when shall i get an appointment at the doctors? because i refuse to be on medication during xmas!! i really do not want to go to the doctors AGAIN, because i literally have just got rid of my last infection and its actually beginning to ruin my life… so another question is do any home remedies actually work?? is there a way i can cure this cystitis by myself? i am becoming desperate now, and its annoying because i do go to the loo after sex, and i take cranberry capsules daily, and it has had no effect on me someone please give me advice on all this! why cant life just be simple and nice…

Have a wee immediately after sex – this flushes out any bugs that have been shoved into your urethra and reduces the chance of cystitis occurring.

Do you check your wee colour regularly? It should always be pale yellow – if it’s dark yellow then you’re dehydrated which significantly increases the risk of cystitis.

I think the cranberry juice will be better than capsules.

I’d just go back to the GP’s if I were you!

ali,

i am so sorry you have to deal with this. I went through EXACTLY the same thing. 3 tips

1. keep with the cranberry juice…but actualy juice not tablets!
2. do go to the toilet after sex
3. use a condom (this is the only thing that helps for me vastly)

if it keep persisting as it did for my friend you will need to go to the drs and the last option is to have your (dont know the technical term) tube between your bladder widened to decrease the risk of yeast build up. its not a nice operation but it does work, my friend is living proof. also someone mentioned the pill?? probably worth speaking to your dr also.

good luck, and as annoying as it is..condoms are the best way without having an operation!

I was diagnosed with severe chronic cystitis about a year ago. My Urologist said it was caused by smoking. I have since quit smoking, but I want to know what kind of home remedies are there to take away the pain and hopefully stop some of the bleeding?

You can often treat cystitis yourself by doing the following things.
To reduce discomfort, take the painkiller that you would take for a headache.
Make your urine less acidic by drinking a glass of water with half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda dissolved in it. Products that contain sodium bicarbonate or potassium citrate have the same effect and are available from your pharmacist. Always ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice and read the patient information that comes with your medicine.
Some doctors recommend that you drink lots of water to help flush out the infection.

There is a potassium citrate mixture sold in pharmacies. Way back it used to taste horrible and we nicknamed it mist (mixture) sit pot because taking it and drinking lots of water had that effect!

Doctors don’t know exactly what causes interstitial cystitis. However, they do know that it isn’t caused by infections with bacteria or viruses. It might be caused by a defect in the lining of the bladder. Normally, the lining protects the bladder wall from the toxic effects of the urine. In about 70 percent of the people with interstitial cystitis, the protective layer of the bladder is "leaky." This may let urine irritate the bladder wall, causing interstitial cystitis.

Other possible causes may be an increase of histamine-producing cells in the bladder wall or an autoimmune response (when antibodies are made that act against a part of the body).

Good for you re the smoking. Smoking. Many people who have interstitial cystitis find that smoking makes their symptoms worse.

There is no dietary cure for IC, but some foods – such as mature cheeses, yoghurt, chocolate, canned and processed meats and fish, most nuts, vinegar, pickles and mayonnaise, as well as most fruit juices – do seem to irritate the bladder lining. Bread, rice and pasta, meat and most fish, and some vegetables, including broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and sprouts, seem not to make symptoms worse.
There is a US site on the link re foods, but it does seem to be a bit of trial and error is needed with some foods.
