okay, im 17 my boyfriends 19, hes the only person ive ever slept with.. we’ve been together for 4 months… the last time we had sex was thursday night (25th feb) im not trying to have TMI but it was quiteee rough… i never bleed after sex, the only time i ever experience a little bit of soreness is straight after we have it..

today is saturday 27th feb, i saw my boyfriend, we went to the bar and i had 3 pints… i went to the toilet a few times, i normally do when i drink anyway, but the last time i went after i weed i felt like i still needed to wee but nothing would come out, we got back to his, i wee’d, then felt like i need it again, the next time i went REALLY hurt, and i just constantly felt like i needed a wee but it wouldnt always come out but when it did it hurt SOOO much, it reallyyy ached.. i never normally cry of pain but this i did, the pain is unberable, i had to go him from my boyfriends cos i was in so much pain, i never normally do this, im still experiencing the same thing… do i have honeymoon cystitis? im in SO much pain :’(

xx

Do you understand what honeymoon cystitis is? It’s a bladder inflammation due to prolonged or frequent sexual activity. You haven’t provided any information that would lead me to believe your situation meets this criteria. I’m not saying you definitely don’t have HC. I’m saying that you haven’t said anything that obviously points to HC. You understand the difference?

However, because female anatomy predisposes us to UTIs to begin with, frequent or regular sexual activity can transfer bacteria to the urinary meatus (the external opening to the urethra) and often does just this. Your symptoms suggest a UTI but I have no way to know which part of the urinary tract is involved. You need to see your doctor. You’re in the UK or Ireland, right? See your GP. It’s necessary to have a urinalysis to confirm the presence of infection along with a urine culture to identify the organism causing it. It will likely be bacteria but could possibly be viral. Antibiotics aren’t used to treat viral UTIs like they’re used for bacterial infection.

In the meantime, drink a lot of water, hold off on sex for now (sorry), make sure you always wipe from front to back, avoid bubble baths, in the future try to urinate immediately before and/or after having sex. Consider using a cleansing wipe on and around the anal area before having sex. This will somewhat reduce the number of bacteria on the skin.

I’m also going to advise that you avoid cranberry juice or other very acidic drinks. This juice helps prevent some types of bacteria from attaching to the walls of the bladder but 90% of UTIs in women are cause by E. coli. E. coli is a bacterium found in the intestines and at the perianal area (the skin in and around the anus). E. coli is acidophilic, meaning it thrives in an acidic environment. The type of environment you create when you drink cranberry juice. Juice can prolong or even worsen an E. coli UTI. Avoid it until you’ve had a urine culture and know what organism is causing the problem. If it’s E. coli or another acidophilic bacteria, no cranberry juice! Just lots of water. No Broadside, no Yella Belly, no Dirty Dick’s, no pints, just water.

There is a drug called phenazopyridine. In the US it’s sold as Pyridium, Urogesic, Uristat, Azo-Standard and others. If you’re able to find the generic or an equivalent brand name, buy it. Phenazopyridine is an anesthetic used to temporarily relieve UTI pain. Make sure you don’t buy a product with cranberry extract, use it as directed and make sure you don’t use this product for longer than 2 days. Expect to see orange or reddish-orange yellow urine. This is the excreted medication.

okay the last time i had full sexual intercourse was thursday 25th february.. it was quite rough (sorry if tmi) saturday night (27th feb) i started to get this feeling in my vagina that i really needed a wee so i went to the toilet, wee’d and then felt like i still needed to wee (i had been drinking alcohol) i got back to his house, had another wee still felt like i needed a wee, so had another one and it started to REALLY ache when i weed, not burn as such cos ive had cystitis once before and it was totally different, it reaaaally hurt so much i cried (i never cry of pain) and had to go home and leave my boyfriend it was painful all that night, i drank loads of cranberry juice and in the next couple of days it actually seemed to have cleared up, sunday it was okay, and monday and tuesday was absolutely fine, ive been drinking lots of water and cranberry juice all week.. but today it seems to have come back on, the pain isnt as bad as it was saturday night but its the same sort of thing, should i go to the doctors?

the thing is i hadnt had a LOT of sex lately, just that one time which was quite rough, or could it be because the thursday before that(18th feb) me and my boyfriend tried to have sex i was going on top and i didnt sit back enough so his penis kind of touched my bum (my bum was reallly sore that day) and then he went in my vagina with it .. right when he did that, i thought to myself "sh*t im probly gonna have to pay for that in a couple of days" do you think its because of that or the rough sex?

x
im also on birth control pills and this is my pill free week (since saturday 27th feb) if that could have anything to do with it.
yeah i meant he just touched by bum lol x

Your best bet is to go to the doctor if it keeps going on sweets, just get tested to see if you have it, if you do then it’s as simple as taking the antibiotics, if you don’t then at least your doctor can discuss or find a solution for you problem.
Make sure after you have sex you go to the toilet within ten minutes of finishing and cleaning, and have a glass of water.
In your second part of the question are you saying that his penis penetrated your bum or just touched? Your not supposed to go anal then vaginal that can cause UTI’S O_o not too sure if thats what you meant. If it is then yeah that could have caused it.
In my experience when me and my man go at it hard I get a similar sort of feeling, I just wait a few days till it passes.
Keep drinking water and cranberry juice, if it still feels the same after your periods go see the doctors.
Good luck
x

okay, im on the combined pill, been on it for a month, ive just had my first pill free week (you know where you bleed) and i am due to go back on my pill tomorrow.. over the last week i realised i have honeymoon cystitis, i took a urine sample to the doctors today and he said it was on the highest scale of cysitis and has given me a week of antibiotics.. i have started today.. since antibiotics affect the pill and im going back on my pill tomorrow, so im starting my pill with the antibiotics, so they wont work, so its basically as if im not starting my pill.. im unsure of how long i will need to use condoms for? what do you think? i hope i wont have to use condoms for the whole month

also, how long would you advise me until i have sex again? (cos of the cystitis)

thanks! x

Use condoms the entire time you are taking antibiotics and for a week after you stop taking them. Continue to take your birth control every day, even when you are on the antibiotics. Ask your doctor about returning to sexual activity, since he/she is the only one that can give you an answer specific to your condition.

For the past month, I have been having serious problems with my groin area.

At the start of the new year, I contracted a Urinary Tract Infection because I started having sex with a new partner. We both got the infection at the same time, it was honeymoon cystitis.

I went to my doctor and he put me on a course of amoxcyllin, but this didnt clear it up. He then put me on a stronger medication, and it still didnt clear up.

Since then, my problems have become a lot worse. I started to get an unbearable pain in my left testicle and up my right side. My stomach also became very tender, and I never had the urge to go for a wee.

I’ve had to have scans to see if anything was wrong, and the radiographer said that after I had been for a wee, my bladder hadnt actually emptied itself at all.

This was all a couple of weeks ago. Now, my urinary problems have cleared, but I am still left with an unbearable pain in my groin. This has now spread to the shaft of my penis, and I’m in complete dispair. I have a consultation with a urologist in two weeks, but I dont think I can wait that long!

Has anybody been through this themselves?? and if so, what hapens from here?

i have not heard of anything like that before. But i would say that you should try and hold on until that urologist appointment. And if you cant, then i guess going to the ER would be the only option. Sorry to not have any real info.

I am almost positive that you have a urinary tract infection, it can be caused from sex but it isn’t really much to worry about. Mild ones do clear up on their own in a few days, but you probably need to go to the doctor to get some antibiotics. In the mean time drink a lot of water to clear out your system as much as possible.

Intercourse is not painful but I always experience pain for a few days after as if I was too tight and its streched a bit!
Neither i or my partner have an STI or anything of the sort.

Is there any answer to this?

Basically with some women the problem is a mechanical one due to bruising of the urethra. It is also of course related to the ‘enthusiasm’ of the intercourse.
