I’m 14, male, 5"7 and fairly slim, if thats relevant.
In November I had a UTI which I was treated with antibiotics for, and that cleared up (if thats relevant).
Anyway, for the past 3 weeks I have been experiencing these symptoms:
I am, having light abdominal cramps, but hardly painful. I am also having a slight burning sensation when I urinate. However, I am not using the toilet more often or anything like that. But about three weeks ago, on one day, 2 or 3 times when I went to use the toilet, there was some blood in the urine. That was painless, though. One more thing I’ve been having is back pain, seeminlgy where my kidneys are. My urine has not always been right, either. Like, it looks a little more cloudy but you can’t see it cloudy when its in the toilet bowl. Also, sometimes when I feel like I have to go, I don’t need to go that much, but I still can go, just not AS much as I expected.
But today I went to the toilet (this happened a few days ago once aswell), when I urinated, I had a fairly intense shooting pain in my middle-right abdomen which lasted a few seconds.
What do you think is wrong with me? Could the UTI be returning? As last time when I had the UTI, I had blood in my urine, and that was the beginning of my other symptoms too, which is the case here. But I’m not sure. What do you think?
Thanks.
You appear to have a kidney infection (also a UTI). Because you are 14, I am not going to suggest what I do for kidney infections which works for me. Also this could be a sign of a more serious kidney problem and I hope that you have spoken to your parents because it is time to go back to the doctor for a couple of tests and a diagnosis followed by treatment.
There are a few possibilities on the infection side. One is that your bladder infection (UTI) began in your kidneys but was only noticed as back pain until it spread to your bladder or urethra. Or the original infection had already moved to your kidneys and was never completely cured. Or whatever caused the initial problem was repeated except that this time the infection began in your kidneys/
Please print the link below and show it to your parents so that you are aware of the possibilities:
http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec11/ch142/ch142b.html
"Blood in the urine may be caused by infection, stones, tumors, injuries, or other problems in the bladder, urethra, ureters, or kidneys.
About half of the people who have blood in the urine without pain have a disorder affecting primarily certain specialized blood vessels of the kidney (glomeruli).
Sometimes, sickle cell anemia or a related disorder is the cause. Blood in the urine with pain is often the result of a kidney, bladder, or prostate infection or a stone or a blood clot moving through one of the ureters or the urethra"
The only thing that matters about what we think is that kidney issues need medical attention to rule out possibilities and to focus on the correct diagnosis.
A simple link which connects all 3 symptoms to a UTI:

One last complicated link with all 3 symptoms:

And that is a very good reason to see the doctor again.
I might add that it would be good to eat bio-active yogurt especially after a course of antibiotics as those meds can play havoc with the friendly fauna in your intestinal tract – which could cause pain. If you don’t like yogurt then a good quality acidophilus is in order.
Best wishes – that back pain is no fun.
