Is this cystitis…again!?!?!?!?
Okay so far since last Christmas I have had 8 bouts of cystitis/kidney infections.
i was finally sent for an ultra-sound scan after my 8th infection, only for them to find…nothing!
I’m just wondering whether or not drinking alcohol may be making it hurt to pee?
I was out drinking on Friday night, then Saturday I admit I didn’t drink much.
Then late yesterday afternoon I started with the usual symptoms again.
please help, I’m yet to find a GP that:
A) cares
B) cures it
C) believes that this is driving me mad!
Thanks

To be honest, I have tried cranberry juice, I've tried the sachets you can get to put in water, and ive tried cranberry forte capsules by 7 seas.
I dont want to go on any more antibiotics because lets face it, its no fun when you've just turned 18 and you can't have your first alcoholic drink yet!
Just feel like im stuck in a rut. the doctors wont refer me to a specialist, they just keep handing out antibiotics and hoping it'll go away.

Oh and ive tried the peeing before and after sex religiously!….i'm guessing its not working because after 8 infections, somethings up lol!
My pee burns every single day, and has done for over a year. If you do a urine sample and there is no bacteria, then the doctor wont believe there is anything wrong. They don’t believe a word of what you say and think it’s in your head when it could be the thing I have, interstitial cystitis, which gives you the symptoms of an infection every single day, and certain foods and drink irritate it.
Get to the doctor and mention IC to them.
I have had cystoscopies, ultrasounds, CT scans and post void residue scans. The only reason I got all this is because I’m only 16 and it’s unusual for young people to have IC, but other than that, there is no cure and I’m getting nowhere.
Alcohol definitely irritates the bladder and would make it nip, especially if you have an underlying bladder condition. Caffeine in anything leads me to curl up in agony on the floor, I’ve never drunk alcohol and I don’t plan to as I’m sure it will drive my bladder off it’s head.
I’ve needed the toilet and had burning pee for over a year, I believe you it drives you mad
. I’ve been to therapy and it didn’t help at all
! Good luck finding a doctor that isn’t an idiot!

I don’t think alcohol alone should have caused your cystitis, though if you are prone to cystitis and kidney infections, then it probably does not help.
You can pick up treatments over the counter from your chemist. Suggest you try one of these, if it is cystitis it will relieve your symptoms. Also, try and drink plenty of fluid. This can include weak tea and squash, though water is better. A full bladder makes it a bit less painful to pee.
I can believe it’s driving you mad, it’s very painful. Whatever signals your GP is giving you, try to ignore them and get this sorted out one way or another. Good luck.

If you have had this many infections you should be referred to a specialist. The GP should have advised you to stay well hydrated, go to the toilet when you need to, and try to always go for a pee after sex as sex can drive bacteria up towards the bladder. It may be that a sexual position or practice you are doing is injuring the tissues around that area and making them more prone to infection.
When you are drunk you are less likely to clear out your whole bladder when you go for a pee and this makes you more likely to get an infection. Try avoiding alcohol for a while and see how it goes, Try seeing a different GP, or changing practices, or going to a drop in clinic at your local hospital.
Thrush can make urination painful, it maybe worth asking for a swab to help determine whether that is the cause of your symptoms. Another potential cause is vulval excema which can also cause soreness in that area.

Have you tried cranberry juice? I’ve found this to be the best thing to drink whenever I’ve had the early symptoms of cystitis.
My 18yr old daughter gets cystitis whenever she is stressed & after several bouts of it our GP suggested she drink at least 1 litre of cranberry juice, more if she can.
If you don’t like cranberry then I would suggest Robinsons Barley Water diluting cordial but it won’t work as quickly as cranberry juice.
You could also take paracetamol for the tummy pain.

certains foods can help you from developing infections like this. drinking lots of cranberry juice if very good for you, also natural yoghurt can help. i suggest you improve your diet. you may just be one of the unfortunate women like me who are more prone to getting these infections. i dont think its the alcohol though. often if your sexually active you get infections more often.
