Reoccurring cystitis?
Hello, I’ve never had cystitis before in my life until about 6 months ago, and I’ve literally began having one bladder infection per month, or even more regularly!
It’s getting to be a real pain and I don’t know if my symptoms indicate a more serious probolem or just cystitis alone? They are:
*Burning/stinging sensation when urinating
*Frequent urge to urinate
*A sense of not emptying my bladder fully
*Abdominal pain
*Nausea
*Fatigue, weakness and temperature
*And from time to time, blood in urine, and discolouration of urine. – (dark and cloudy.)
After reasearching on the internet I’ve been told my final four bullet points could indicate a much more serious problem, I’ve been had my kidneys etc inspected at the hospital and everything is in working order, though despite my frequent visits to my local clinic, my doctors have continued to treat me with anti-biotics that have never really killed the problem, they have just lessened it.
Should I be worried, do my symptoms indicate cystitis or could it be something far more sinister such as interstitial cystitis, which is a condition that as of yet had no cure.
I’m only 18 years of age and having these frequent bladder complaints are already taking their toll. Will I have to suffer with this irritation for the rest of my life?
Also is there anything I can do to prevent infections and any remedies to help ease the discomfort when one occurs?
Thank you! =) X
I presume your urine has been properly tested in a lab for culture and sensitivity?
At the end of each course of antibiotics ask for it to be tested again to see if the offending organisms(usuall e-coli) have been zapped. You need to wait a week after the course has finished to give it time to grow if it is going to do so!
If you don’t get to the root of it you will never get rid of it.
You say you had your kidneys examined–an ultrasound scan?–a ct scan?
After that the next step is a cystoscopy( camera scope to look inside the bladder)
If nothing abnormal is found (like Kernow Lady had) then you may get a prophylactic course of a weaker dose of the appropriate antibiotic to which your "bugs" are sensitive
To ease the pain of cystitis when you get an attack, drink a mug of warm water with a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda mixed in it every 2 hours for 3 times and drink lots of fluids as well.
Take Paracetamol 2 tablets 4x a day (8 in 24 hours)
Put a hot water bottle on your lower abdomen or pubic area to ease the pain.

When I was your age (long time ago) I had the same problems. I had cystitis for over 2 years and after 2 episodes of renal colic they at last took me into hospital. Under exam ( I had an anaesthetic) they found that I had a very small bladder with a tight end, so I never emptied it properly, therefore infection kept building up. I was washed out, discharged and have only had 1 episode of cystitis in 40 years. My point is, press for a proper examination by a Specialist who deals with bladders and kidneys, keep on at them, someone needs to give you an answer. Don’t forget you must drink loads, a glass of water every hour if you can.
