Where can I get Science Diet for cats w/out prescription?
I just went to a Petsmart Banfield and they won’t refill my cat’s prescription without him doing a mandatory vet visit to get a new refill. His vet said that he needs this every day for the rest of his life due to having Feline Idiopathic Cystitis. Problem is that he is almost out of his food and I don’t have enough time to get him to a vet before he runs out and I’ve also moved a couple months ago so I have to go through the process of finding a new vet fast. Is there any website that doesn’t require a prescription to buy Hills Science Diet c/d? (also, it’s not on ebay so don’t suggest that). I will be getting him to a new vet ASAP still.
Call your old vet and ask them to fax a prescription to Banfield. It might be a good idea to get the fax number of the place you want them to send it before you call.

a new vet won’t prescribe without a check up.
the vet that prescribes should refill.

This is important that your cat stays on this food. Of course, if push comes to shove and you dont have anything else its probably not gonna kill the cat to eat something else for just a few days but you definitely do want to get him back on the stuff your vet prescribed ASAP.
Have your old vet email or fax over the documentation or prescription to a new vet in your area. Explain to your new vet how important it is that your cat stays on this food. Try to get your cat in to see a new vet soon so that there are no further issues regarding this.
I went through this with a dog many years ago, he had to eat a special prescription type dog food for a similar condition. It is important to keep them on it.

You, my dear; need to learn about Idiopathic Cystitis. You also need a referral to a veterinary Internist. They will be better able to help you control the disease than a regular vet can. Because it is not curable. You can only TRY to control it. There are many different things that are being tried to help cats with Idiopathic Cystitis. I worked with a Veterinary Internist who was at the forefront of working to find things to help cats with the disease. She has since retired and I don’t remember what we used. But the more educated you are, the better you can help your cat.

You can’t get it without a prescription. But the easiest and quickest way would be to call your old vet, and have them fax a prescription to a new local vet (or possibly petsmart, but I don’t know how petsmart works). I was watching some cats for a friend once when she was out of town and her cat ran out of his prescription diet too. I called her and she wound up calling her vet (who was in another state), and had them fax the prescription to my local vets office. Then I just went in and picked up the food. You will not have to pay the new vet for an office visit fee, you’ll just pay for the food. But I’m sure your old vet will charge you. But still, it’s the easiest and quickest way to get your kitty more food. That way, you’ll still have time to appropriately evaluate a new vet. For now, you can just pick any vet, call for their fax number, and then once it’s faxed, go in and pay for the food. Simple as that.
