Can u get rid of a UTI (honeymoon cystitis) without antibiotics? How long does it take?
My hubby and I of 15 years have been going through a honeymoon phase lately. I’ve never had a UTI before but after a week of having a lot of sexual activity (abnormal for us) I’ve gotten one. Went to the doctor and she told me I have honeymoon cystitis but there’s no bacteria in my urine. She gave me an antibiotic but I hate taking antibiotics. Do I have to take them or will this go away on its own? How long do these things take to go away? When can we go back to having sex again? My sister says she gets these all the time and just drinks cranberry juice and it goes away. Will it, or do I have to take the antibiotics? Please help. Thank u!
Wow, thank u for the great advice. I plan to fill my prescription for my antibiotic asap! Can my hubby get it from me if we have sex? (Don’t plan to but just curious).
i think since theres no actual bacteria in your urine you could get away without taking the antibiotics. just drink 8 glasses of water a day to flush it out, symptoms should be subsiding within about 3-4 days.
in future try to drink pure unconcentrated cranberry juice as this helps to prevent UTI’s.
*EDIT*
cranberry juice will not cure UTI’s it is only a preventative.

Cranberry juice only prevents certain UTIs, it does NOT treat them. Your doctor probably diagnosed you based on symptom and the understanding that rapid in-office tests will not detect all infections.
An untreated UTI can become a kidney infection and lead to kidney failure or death. Start your antibiotics, take them as prescribed, and take them until the course is absolutely done.
ETA:
No, you will not spread your uti, although you probably want to avoid sex for the first couple of days for YOUR sake.

Get the cranberry tablets at the drug store and drink a lot of water. Ive heard vitamin C helps as well. NO BATHS! Only showers. Wipe front to back! Use the bathroom when you feel the urge!
