Can cranberry juice affect UTI home test kit results?
I’ve been drinking about 2 cups of 100% unsweetened cranberry juice every day for past 2 weeks. I had UTI symptoms but came back negative on AZO test strip. I’m a 37 male.
Cranberry juice that you get in the store does not have enough of what cranberries contain that helps the urinary tract. They make capsules of concentrated cranberry juice that you can just swallow or make into a tea to drink. UTIs can be present that do not show up on the strips. You probably need a urinalisis and "culture and sensitivity" (C&S) that needs to be performed in a laboratory through your doctor. It will show what bacteria is present and what antibiotics will be effective to eradicate it. Don’t right away think STD. If you hear hoofprints, think horses not zebras.
cranberry juice is just thought to prevent bacteria from adhering to bladder. is not curative, treatment or preventative. Azo strips may not be reliable and if you are symptomatic, urgency, burning, pain, frequency or blood, may have std or other and needs appropriate , accurate diagnosis and treatment. Azo is a bladder anesthetic and not a treatment for uti or std and should only be used about 3 days or so.
You need to see a urologist and don’t have intercourse and spread something around . Atleast wait until treatment complete.
