Does sex cause unairy tract infection?
Does having sex cause uniary tract infection
Yes, and interestingly enough, a UTI is also called Honeymoon Cystitis.
Honeymoon cystitis is the term for a urinary tract infection that can occur as a result of irritation and bruising from frequent and prolonged sexual intercourse. The majority of sufferers are female, and it's not uncommon for a woman to suffer the first outbreak on her honeymoon.
Simple precautions can help ensure that honeymoon cystitis does not recur:
- Drink plenty of water (8 glasses a day is recommended)
- Drink cranberry juice
- Avoid coffee
- Urinate immediately before and after sexual activity to flush bacteria from the urethra
- When you’re ready to resume penis-vagina sex, consider applying a water-based lubricant to the vaginal area to ease insertion
- See a urologist or gynecologist for further treatment if the infection returns post-honeymoon.

It does not cause it, but in order to prevent it I suggest emptying your bladder after sex. This may sound silly, but it is true. Sexual positions doesn't matter.

It can. The act of sex can help to push bacteria up the urethra and cause a UTI. If you are prone to UTI's it might help to drink a glass of water before sex and go to the bathroom and urinate right after. That helps to "flush out" potential bacteria. Cranberry juice also contains some chemicals that help prevent the bacteria from adhering to the wall of the bladder. Of course basic hygiene cannot be overstated. Wash with soap and water both yourself and your partner.

YES, urinary tract infections happen when a person waits for weeks or months to have sex, then when they have sex they have it back to back to back to back to back! Doctors call UTI's "The Honeymooners Infection"! To try and prevent a UTI, urinate before and after you have sex if you are going to "do it" back to back to back! I know this because my husband left for Iraq and we did the honeymooners thing (no sex for 8 mths.), and I got a UTI. The same thing happened again when he came back home for Iraq (no sex again for 5 mths.)…I got another UTI!

This happened to me. Only your Dr. can give you a Rx to get rid of this infection!

Yes it can, because having sex pushes bacteria inside of you. It's a very normal thing but very painful. That's why it's a good idea to go pee after you have sex because it pushes bacteria out.
